Dr. Olson has been around veterinary medicine all his life. His father was a prominent veterinarian in Salina, and he spent many, many hours observing and helping around his father’s hospital as a young man. Dr. Olson received his undergraduate BS in Biology from The University of Kansas in 1979 and went on to receive his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Kansas State University in 1983.
Dr. Olson spent 6 years in private practice (Tulsa and Wichita)and four years at the Wichita Emergency Veterinary Clinic (now called the Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital of Wichita) practicing emergency medicine before opening Village Animal Hospital in May of 1993. Dr. Olson has been very active in the Kansas Veterinary Medical Association holding office on the state executive Board, and numerous state committees including serving as the president of the KVMA Foundation. He has been equally active in the local veterinary community as well. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Kansas Veterinary Medical Association, Wichita Veterinary Medical Association, American Association of Feline Practitioners, and the American Heartworm Society. His hospital is a fully accredited member of the American Animal Hospital Association.
Dr. Olson and his wife Sarah have three married children, Stephan, Elizabeth and Caroline who have given “Ganny and Gampy” three grandchildren (to date). Since becoming “empty nesters” they have enjoyed travels to Lawrence for KU football and basketball games and visiting family in Kansas City. They now enjoy sharing their quiet home time with Winnie, their Miniature Schnauzer. The Olson’s are active members of Eastminster Presbyterian Church.
Billie joined the Village Animal Hospital team in late February of 2022. She enjoys building relationships with our clients as well as their pets.
With a background at the Kansas Humane Society further igniting her passion for animals, Billie continued her career in animal welfare and medicine by joining the team at the Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital of Wichita. While taking classes through Penn Foster, she has also gained her certifications through the RECOVER program for Basic and Advanced Life Support as well as CPR. Additionally, she has gained, maintained, and utilized her Fear Free Certification while working at Village Animal Hospital.
Billie is a mother to two young boys. She also has three dogs. Leonidas, a Cane Corso, and two labrador mixes, Ebony and Roxi. She also has a cat named Benny. Billie enjoys going to the lake with her rowdy crew, reading a good fiction book, painting with watercolors, or enjoying an evening in the sun room.
Sarah joined the Village Animal Hospital staff in the Spring of 2009. She enjoys getting to know our clients on a first name basis and loving on their precious pets when they come through our doors.
Born and raised in Wichita, Sarah was homeschooled from 2nd grade through graduation. She then attended Wichita State University, where her love of writing led to studying Print Journalism and Communication.
Sarah and her husband Jeremy enjoy traveling, hosting game nights and staying up to date with the latest movies and tv series. They have two mixed-breed dogs, Wrigley and Cubby. (Yes, Jeremy is a Chicago Cubs fan!) When Sarah isn’t at Village Animal Hospital, you can probably catch her in a Zumba Fitness class. She’s a licensed instructor and teaches classes for the local YMCA.
